Culver: Ridiculous!

Confronted by community resident Roger Fetterly for showing poor form (and that's being kind), Supercalifragiladminstrator Tim Culver was quick to label Fetterly's allegations as "ridiculous".

Fetterly called Culver, administration , and the board out for working feverishly behind the scenes to orchestrate what Fetterly termed a "covert" hearing on the 2010-11 budget.

Was "covert" too harsh a term? We don't think so...at least technically. YourDictionary.com defines covert as, "concealed, hidden, disguised, or surreptitious". Certainly the meeting announcement was "hidden or concealed from members of the Finance Committee and the general public.

Tim...you completely missed the point...or were you just being purposefully obtuse?

Purposefully obtuse
Culver may not like the term "covert", but the public didn't just roll off a turnip truck yesterday. Culver appeared to be playing purposefully obtuse, but it ain't foolin' anybody. It was clear that district Communications Manager sent out a call to arms to all district staff and a shadow group known as the "Parent Leadership Council". Oh...but they forgot to even tell members of the Finance Committee about the scheduled meeting, let alone the general public. The mission directive is to come out to the annual elector's meeting in force and take back the tax levy from the whining public.

Finally, ONE WEEK LATER, a notice to district "Key Communicators" was sent out this afternoon...one week after the "internal" people were informed of the meeting. Stacking the deck?

What was missing in the notice to "Key Communicators?
We noticed one very interesting sentenced that was included in e-mails to the "Parent Leadership Council" and all district staff, but was mysteriously edited out of the e-mail sent to Key Communicators today:

If the levy doesn't pass at the annual meeting in October, what does that mean for our schools and our students?

Hmmm...does Dr. Culver have an explanation for why this sentence was "covertly" removed?

What is this Parent Leadership Council (PLC)anyway?
Who are these people? Are they a group of "pet" parents who have been offered and accepted a drink of the district "Koolaid"? How does one become part of the "PLC"? Are there applications? Or is it like the good Dr. Culver's infamous "360 degree" evaluation, for which he cherry picks individuals in the community to rate his performance?

Did you get the memo about joining the PLC?
We didn't.
Anyone surprised?

So...community members...the first of several (we hope) hearings (we hope they're more like "listening sessions") will be held on May 20th at 6:00 pm at the new high school Performing Arts Center. Be there...to hear about the increase to your property tax bill coming in December.
