School Board candidate (wait...is he running...or did he withdraw? we're SO confused!) Gary Alan Naud recently updated us to let us know that he DID sign the Walker recall petition.
So, in fairness, we felt we should pass it on.

Our guess is that, based on how he signed the form, you could find it on IVerifytheRecall under "Gary Alan".

We like to present facts here...so here it is.  In the grand scheme of things, however, our bet is that the community values integrity too much to elect Mr. Naud to the school board.

Ahhh..vindication...it brings to mind one of our favorite characters...Tweety Bird.

Today's Journal tells us that all 7 Madison School Board members and all challengers in the spring election signed the petitions to recall Governor Scott Walker.  We wondered how things are in Sun Prairie.

Only 2 Board Members Signed
Of the current Sun Prairies School Board, only John Whalen and Jill Camber Davidson could be found on the IVerifyTheRecall site.  Hmmm.  What exactly does that mean?  Not sure.  But them's the facts.  Madison is 7 for 7; Sun Prairie is 2 for 7.

Did Mr. Naud Just Say No to Signing the Recall Walker petition?
The enigma that is Gary Alan Naud continues to be...well...enigmatic.   Here's a guy who's loudly and publicly suctioned himself onto the Recall Walker peeps like a remora on a shark.  Funny thing is we couldn't find his name listed on the IVerifyThe Recall site.

Wouldn't it seem that someone so coattail clingy to the Recall Walker movement would have proudly signed a petition?  Or is this just someone who's hoping to ride the Recall Walker tide past his shoplifting charge (and other legal issues found on Wisconsin Circuit Court Access)?  Just how anti-Walker is Mr. Naud?

Mr. Naud has had a wild ride.  He withdrew from the race in late February after some alert citizens became aware of his shoplifting citation, which was reported by the STAR.  Or did he just "suspend" his campaign while deciding whether or not he could ride the Recall Walker movement to election?  He lost the primary for a City Council seat, and now apparently is back "in it to win it".  How will this wild ride end?

10 days ago, Mr. Naud dropped out of the race due to information coming to light that he was cited for shoplifting. It seems he's changed his mind. Know what we love about this community (country?)...never a dull moment!


And he's running on an anti-Walker agenda (how unique!).
Will that drum up votes from the teachers union?
Does John Whalen need to check six?

Breaking News: Naud Withdraws

In the wake of a flurry of activity this week, Gary Alan Naud has withdrawn from the school board election.  Earlier this evening, his website, www.justsaynaud.com, showed only the following:

After careful consideration and after my recent unfavorable primary results, I am withdrawing my candidacy for the Sun Prairie School Board. I appreciate all the support I have received from so many Sun Prairie citizens, and look forward to continuing to be connected to our community. At this juncture, however, I think I can best serve Sun Prairie as a private citizen, and I am eager to continue working in our community to make Sun Prairie better.

Congratulations to Mike Krachey...who will now earn the seat vacated by Terry Shimek; and to John  Whalen for...well...being John Whalen.

Did anyone else notice that two years in a row now we've had candidates withdraw from the race for school board seats?  These seats are hotter than the presidency.

Gaming the System?

We hate politics.
You know why? Because politics is a dirty game.
And many try to game the system.

We'd like to believe little old Sun Prairie was above that, but perhaps not.
At election time, we like check out the STAR's "The Star Picks..." editorial for grins.  We usually can figure out which candidates the STAR will endorse (as if that requires some magic crystal ball), but we like to see how the editorial slants things.  But this year we came across something interesting.

I have to agree with Mr. Larson. I live in district 4 and had an opportunity to meet with Gary Alan Naud. He actually introduced himself, inquired about my life in Sun Prairie and thoughts about how our governments doing and where it can improve.

Naud actually took the time to listen and explain what he would do and stand up for. He had more to say than a sleepy (misspelled) rattling of the "same old" with the "same promises" and catch phrases. I think not even mentioning his name is an injustice to our community and letting them know who their options are.

I personally plan on voting for Gary Alan Naud in District 4!

 Naud... "introduced himself"....?
Really?
One would hope so, seeing as a quick check on "411.com" shows that Sun Prairie School Board and City Council candidate Gary Alan Naud actually shares an apartment with Mr. Breister.

A little further Internet sleuthing will reveal that-- unless there is another Joshua Breister that has traveled from Fond du Lac to Sun Prairie like Mr. Naud-- Mr. Naud and Mr., Breister have known each other quite well for a number of years. C'mon!  What is this, like high school all over again?  Having a close friend write a letter to the editor (of sorts) posing as just the average Josh?

Mr. Naud may be new to politics, but he needs to counsel his friends against gaming the system.
It really paints a very unflattering picture for Mr. Naud's political future.  And that's too bad, because many of us are looking for fresh perspectives in local government.  But we want straight shooters.

This is indeed the electronic age, and Mr. Naud, who professes to be adept at social networking, has to realize that the Internet is a powerful tool, and people use it.  We all know from reading the papers that all candidates are simply selling their best wares.  But they need to be wary of being caught gaming the system.

Many of you have asked...who is this new name in the school board race?  Who is this Gary Naud guy?.
We figured we'd just ask him to tell the community about himself...and he was kind enough to provide the following:


I am running for Sun Prairie City Council and Sun Prairie School Board to deepen my connection with the families and kids that I work with every day. Our city is a beautiful, enriching environment for raising a family. We take pride in our Main Street, local stores, roads and parks, schools, and community centers. I am connected to our families– I will meet with the people who want to speak with me, and stay in constant contact with my constituents. 

As an afterschool teacher and daycare provider, I work with parents and address their children’s growth and development needs. I was the U.S. Census district coordinator for Sun Prairie and have experience working “on the ground,” serving my neighbors and working with the government. Additionally, from my years as a store manager, I know how to run a business and manage finances. I know how to work with people, build productive collaborations, and have extensive experience in hiring the right people for the tasks needed at hand. 


Too many government decisions are based on hot tempers and hot headlines. Decisions about the future — the future of our children and our city — should be based on evidence, not hotheaded politics. I have many connections to the scientific community at UW-Madison, including several close colleagues who study economics, child development, education, and intergroup relations. These advisors keep me connected to the latest scientific data that are relevant to the needs of our schools and our city. We need to make thoughtful, well-reasoned decisions that will actually improve our community and schools. 


I've met many people who yearn to be involved in our local government. I will be their messenger and satisfy their desire to be connected. My primary duty is representing the concerns and opinions of my Sun Prairie neighbors. I will maintain transparency and keep open communication with our citizens – through neighborhood outreach, social media, and by continuing to be an integrated member of the community. 


I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible, and cannot wait to build the bridge we need between the people of Sun Prairie and our local government.
